ACF x PONY
PONY
New York Sportswear Meets London Punk Tailoring
Art Comes First collaborated with New York footwear and sportswear brand PONY to reinterpret its sporting heritage through ACF's sartorial and cultural perspective. Working with silhouettes from the PONY archive, the collaboration brought together New York athletic heritage, London tailoring and contemporary street culture through footwear, apparel and visual storytelling.

OVERVIEW
From the Court to the Street
PONY — originally Product of New York — provided Art Comes First with an archive rooted in American sport and New York street culture.
ACF approached that history from a distinctly different position: London tailoring, craftsmanship, subculture and its philosophy of respecting tradition while moving it forward.
The resulting collaboration reworked PONY archive silhouettes including the Jumpshot and Linebacker, introducing new materials, construction details and styling while maintaining the sporting character of the originals.
Footwear was accompanied by apparel and accessories, extending the collaboration from individual sneaker design into a broader meeting between the visual worlds of PONY and Art Comes First.

CONTEXT
New York Sportswear Meets London Punk Tailoring
This is where the old page is far too thin, and I think this is the section we should get particularly right.
PONY entered the collaboration with a design language rooted in New York sport, basketball and street culture.
Art Comes First approached clothing from another tradition — tailoring, craftsmanship, music and subculture — but the two shared an interest in how archive references could be brought into contemporary culture.
For ACF, sport and tailoring were not opposing worlds. Both were built around uniform, identity, function and belonging.
The collaboration therefore created an opportunity to bring those histories together: taking recognisable elements from PONY's sporting archive and interpreting them through ACF's London-based sartorial perspective.
As ACF described its philosophy at the time:
"We respect traditions but we move it forward, be it on the streets or anywhere else."
THE OPPORTUNITY
Rework the Archive Without Losing the Sport
The opportunity was not simply to place Art Comes First branding onto an existing sneaker.
It was to ask how PONY's archive could be reinterpreted through another design discipline. What happens when the construction language of tailoring meets footwear originally developed from American sport?
What happens when a New York athletic silhouette is viewed through London's relationship with craftsmanship, punk and street style?
ACF used the archive as its starting point, retaining the recognisable character of PONY's footwear while introducing material and construction interventions that shifted how the models could be perceived and worn.

CREATIVE APPROACH
Archive. Sport. Tailoring. Street.
ACF approached the PONY archive as a vocabulary rather than a set of finished objects.
The process began with understanding what made the original sporting silhouettes recognisable before identifying where they could be challenged through material, construction and styling.

Return the product to contemporary street culture
Rather than disguising the sporting origins of the footwear, the collaboration used those origins as the foundation for experimentation.
The result connected two different cultural languages through a shared respect for craft, style and heritage.
JUMPSHOT
Sporting Form. Sartorial Material.
The PONY Jumpshot provided one of the principal foundations for the collaboration.
ACF's reinterpretation introduced a distinctive herringbone and tape upper, bringing textile references associated with tailoring into the construction of an athletic silhouette.
Presented in black and white, the model retained the clarity of the original sports shoe while introducing a different material language.
LINEBACKER
Function Meets Intervention.
The Linebacker drew upon the visual language of retro American football footwear.
ACF introduced a removable moccasin-inspired fringe, creating a detail that could alter the character of the shoe while retaining its sporting foundation.
The removable element also introduced an idea familiar to ACF's approach to clothing: a product capable of changing according to how its wearer chooses to style it.
APPAREL & ACCESSORIES
Beyond Footwear
The collaboration extended beyond sneakers into apparel and accessories.
Contemporary previews documented basketball-inspired jerseys, T-shirts and bandanas, allowing the project to develop into a broader dialogue between PONY's sportswear identity and ACF's approach to styling and dress.
ACF ROLE
Creative Direction · Creative Concept · Design Direction · Archive Research · Footwear Design · Apparel Development · Material Direction · Styling · Cultural Storytelling
Art Comes First translated its sartorial philosophy into the language of sportswear, working with PONY's archive to reinterpret established products rather than separating the collaboration from the brand's history.
The approach combined product intervention with cultural storytelling, creating a collection that could communicate simultaneously through footwear, clothing and styling.
OUTCOME
From Sporting Archive to Contemporary Culture
The PONY × Art Comes First collaboration transformed established sporting silhouettes through a distinctly sartorial perspective.
Rather than treating heritage as something static, ACF used PONY's archive as the foundation for new material, construction and styling ideas.
The collaboration connected New York and London, sportswear and tailoring, athletic heritage and street culture within one product story.
Its release also gained international visibility across specialist fashion and sneaker media, demonstrating the collaboration's ability to speak simultaneously to fashion, design and sneaker audiences.

LEGACY
Sport, Tailoring & the Art of Collaboration
The PONY collaboration represents an early example of a methodology that would become increasingly important within Art Comes First: entering another brand's archive, understanding its cultural language and finding the point where two identities can genuinely meet.
PONY brought New York sporting heritage.
ACF brought London tailoring, craftsmanship and subcultural thinking.
Neither needed to disappear for the collaboration to work.
Instead, familiar athletic products became a platform through which ACF could explore material, construction and styling from another perspective.
The project demonstrated that the principles behind Punk Tailoring could exist beyond the suit — moving naturally into footwear, sportswear and street culture.
Respect the origin.
Understand the function.
Challenge the construction.
Return it to the street.
