ACF x VELOSOPHY
VÉLOSOPHY
Design in Motion
Art Comes First partnered with Swedish bicycle brand Vélosophy on a design collaboration bringing together fashion, cycling culture and social purpose. Developed through a shared belief in mobility, craftsmanship and meaningful design, the collaboration evolved into two distinctive concepts, The Militant Guild and Racing Ron - realised across four commercially produced bicycle designs.

OVERVIEW
Where Fashion, Bicycle Culture & Purpose Meet
The Art Comes First × Vélosophy collaboration began not in a boardroom, but on a bicycle ride through Stockholm.
Vélosophy approached Art Comes First after following ACF's multidisciplinary work across fashion, art, culture and music. That initial encounter developed into the Vé × ACF Co-Lab, a commercially realised product collaboration connecting fashion, bicycle culture and social purpose.
Central to the partnership was Vélosophy's One for One philosophy, for every Vélosophy bicycle sold, another bicycle was donated to a schoolgirl in Ghana, supporting access to education through mobility
For Art Comes First, cycling already represented freedom, movement and discovery. The collaboration offered an opportunity to translate that relationship into functional design, creating bicycles shaped by ACF's visual language while contributing to a wider social purpose

THE OPPORTUNITY
Taking the Art Comes First Philosophy Beyond Clothing
Art Comes First has always treated style as something larger than fashion.
The way people move through cities, the objects they use and the rituals that surround everyday life can carry just as much cultural meaning as clothing.
Cycling was already part of how Sam and Shaka experienced cities, travel and everyday movement.
Vélosophy offered an opportunity to apply that thinking to a completely different product category.
The challenge was not simply to decorate an existing bicycle, but to translate the attitude and design language of Art Comes First into mobility while respecting the functionality and philosophy of Vélosophy.
At the centre of that conversation was a shared belief that good design could have value beyond the object itself.
THE BEGINNING
A Conversation on Two Wheels
Vélosophy first approached Art Comes First after following the collective's work across fashion, art, culture and music.
The relationship took shape during a summer meeting in Stockholm.
Rather than beginning around a presentation table, Sam, Shaka and the Vélosophy team took to the city by bicycle.
During that ride, conversations around design, movement, culture and purpose developed into the idea for a collaborative project.
The Vé × ACF Co-Lab was born from that exchange.
Equally important was ACF's immediate connection with Vélosophy's social mission.
The partnership therefore began with two shared ideas:
design should have personality and design should have purpose.

THE PRODUCT
Two Concepts. Four Executions.
Rather than create a single bicycle, the collaboration developed two contrasting concepts, each expressing a different side of Art Comes First while remaining grounded in Vélosophy’s approach to urban cycling.
Together, The Militant Guild and Racing Ron formed the creative foundation for four commercially produced bicycle executions.
THE MILITANT GUILD
Tailoring Attitude on Two Wheels
The Militant Guild translated ACF’s tailoring attitude and rebellious visual language into bicycle form.
A defining detail was the Knuckle Duster-inspired brake-lever concept, transforming a functional bicycle component into a distinctive ACF design signature.
The concept reflected a recurring tension within Art Comes First:
discipline and rebellion.
craft and attitude.
function and character.
The result treated the bicycle not simply as transport, but as a functional expression of personal style.
The concept was realised in two finished executions: Black-N-Gold and Snake Charmer.
RACING RON
Speed, Performance & Presence
Where The Militant Guild explored attitude through detail, Racing Ron developed a more performance-driven identity.
Its defining feature was a set of 90mm carbon aero rims, giving the bicycle a strong graphic silhouette and an immediate sense of speed and performance.
The result pushed Vélosophy’s clean urban bicycle language toward something more expressive and visually assertive.
Racing Ron was realised in two finished executions — SE7EN SR and SE7EN BC — completing a four-bike commercial collection across the two core concepts.
DESIGN WITH PURPOSE
Mobility Beyond the Product
An important part of the collaboration was Art Comes First’s connection with Vélosophy’s One for One philosophy.
Vélosophy was built around a simple principle: for every bicycle sold, another bicycle was provided to a schoolgirl in Ghana, supporting access to education through mobility.
For ACF, that social purpose gave the collaboration an additional layer of meaning.
The bicycle therefore represented two forms of movement: freedom and self-expression within the city, and greater access to education and opportunity.
The collaboration brought those ideas together through design.
BICYCLES AS CULTURE
Cycling is often discussed through performance, sport or transportation. Art Comes First approached it through culture.
Like clothing, a bicycle can communicate identity through the way it is designed, used and experienced within the city.
The Vélosophy collaboration explored that space between utility and identity, extending ACF’s creative language from garments into an everyday object without losing its cultural point of view.
CREATIVE IMPACT
The Vélosophy collaboration expanded the Art Comes First practice into mobility and product design, translating ACF’s approach to tailoring, detailing and cultural reference into a functional new category.
Two core concepts — The Militant Guild and Racing Ron — were developed into four finished bicycle executions: Black-N-Gold, Snake Charmer, SE7EN SR and SE7EN BC.
Rather than remaining conceptual studies, the bicycles moved through product development into commercial production and retail, becoming available through Vélosophy in stores and online for Spring 2018.
The project demonstrated ACF’s ability to carry a creative idea from cultural concept to functional product and market release, while remaining connected to Vélosophy’s wider social mission.
PHILOSOPHY
Movement Creates Possibility
A bicycle is one of the simplest forms of personal mobility, but its impact can be profound.
It can change how someone experiences a city, create independence and shorten distance. In another context, it can help make education more accessible.
The Vélosophy collaboration brought those ideas together, demonstrating how product design can operate simultaneously as function, culture and social purpose.
LEGACY
What began as a bicycle ride through Stockholm became a commercially realised collaboration connecting Scandinavian product design with the cultural language of Art Comes First.
Through The Militant Guild and Racing Ron, ACF translated its approach to craftsmanship, character and detail into four finished bicycle executions — Black-N-Gold, Snake Charmer, SE7EN SR and SE7EN BC.
Released through Vélosophy for Spring 2018, the project demonstrated that ACF’s creative practice could move beyond clothing into functional product while retaining its cultural point of view.
